Denim Jean Shopping Guide...

Ladies, we all know how hard it is to find the perfect pair of lived-in jeans. No matter what your body shape, there are a pair of jeans out there made especially for you; it's just a matter of finding them. Just because it's in the store and comes in your size, does not mean you should wear them. That's why it's called shopping; so we can choose from a variety of options that best suit our needs. So here are some simple tips to remember when you're on the hunt.



(Petite, but hippie) If you have ample hips and booty and are 5'4" and below, choose boot cut and/or trouser jeans with a high rise. ( The rise is where the jeans hit the waist). This type of cut will accentuate the backside and thighs while creating a slim, slender silhouette.Wear your jeans with heels to polish off the look. Avoid skinny jeans, they will emphasize the hips while dramatically narrowing the thighs and legs; causing a stocky appearance.

(Petite) If you are 5'4" and under and have narrow hips and a small behind, you can wear the skinny jeans and/or boot cut. Try choosing dark denim and back pockets that have added interest; such as flaps or details. This will give an illusion of a nice rounded bottom, while creating a smooth, long silhouette. You should also get accustomed to wearing a pair of heels with your jeans. Avoid baggy, and wide-legged jeans.

(Average height, no booty) If you are between 5'4"-5'6" and slim, with a less-than obvious booty, always try to find jeans that have details on the back pockets and make sure the pockets are not over-sized(such as many True-Religion jeans) Secondly, choose dark denim that's boot cut. This type of jean will keep you looking long, and slim, but will give the illusion of a booty. You can wear a mid, low, or high rise, depending on your tummy. (Let's not create the muffin-top). You can also do a skinny jean. But make sure it has some type of detailing in the back. A plain-pocket, trendy, colored jean will say look at my "non-booty". Avoid baggy and wide-leg jeans.

(Average height, but hippie) If you are above 5'4", but below 5'6", and have ample hips, and thighs, choose straight leg and/or boot cut. This will even out the look of your silhouette.

If you are tall and slim(5' 6" and above) you can wear them all.... They're all made with you in mind. Just always check the inseam. You need an inseam longer than 32 inches(unless they are cropped).

Now these are just some general tips to help in you search. The main thing to remember ladies is to get in the store, have some fun and try them on!!! When in doubt, step out (of the jeans that is) and move on to the next pair!!! Happy Shopping!!!

What is sexy???

If beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, then where does that leave sexy? Does sexy mean being sexual or sensual? Well, I think it's all relative. Of course everyone has their own idiosyncrasies, fetishes, and preferences. But to me the one thing that is totally sexy is confidence. Now one would assume that since I love fashion so much that I would be quite superficial. Especially, since the fashion industry is all about outside beauty and looking good to someone else's standards. This assumption about me, well, is....right(hahah)sometimes. Nevertheless, beauty and sexy are relative to me. I consider myself to be artistically inclined and I view things from the sunny, happy side. Therefore, sexy to me is a lot of things. But mostly sexy is when you don't have to try so hard. It exudes from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. When you walk in a room, people are curious, amazed, and in wonderment. One does not have to be beautiful according to modern-day standards to be sexy; just confident and sure of who they are. This type of confidence is the most sexy to me. Try not to fit into someones mold. Be yourself and be happy. Your confidence will show. And your sexiness will just be! Happy Shopping!

What Not to Wear....

Okay it's so easy to be negative and post all kinds of nasty, judgemental opinions about these photos. But I am just going to assume these women just don't know any better. And besides, as stated in my profile, a part of my mission is to educate and enlighten. Therefore, I will start by saying we all come in different shapes and sizes. It's so very important for us women to embrace who we are; accept our bodies, and dress accordingly. We all cannot wear every trend we see in the magazines, on the runways, and on television. That's why they are called trends.(click here for my blog on trends, fashion, and style)

With that said, if you are a heavy chested woman, the best way to show off your lovely lady humps is not to show them. It's best to create a silhouette and balance your proportion. We all know you have them , so we don't need to see them. Choose tops that are V-neck; not plunging. Tops that are empire in waist and, perhaps belted blouses, best balance the bust line and the hips.

Here are examples of a V-neck and belted blouses that show off curves. The "what not to wear" lady above could have worn something similar and paired it with jeans and tall boots for a sexy,classy going out to club look.

In addition, if you have a slight tummy or that womanly bulge, please do not wear spandex dresses!!! Choose empire waist dresses and/or loose fitting dresses. The key is to create a proportionate balance between your top and bottom. You always want to display that lady-like silhouette; not show the world your goods! LOL!! And remember to wear your Spanx!

Great "going-out look" for an X-shape! It's sexy, yet fun and hip; leaving plenty to the imagination!

X-shapes(click here for my original blog on YAHX) seem to be the most puzzled at figuring out what to do with what they have. Either they over-expose it in too small and too tight garments, or hide it under over sized, boxy gabs. These women don't realize how lucky they are. Ladies, less is always more. The best way to flaunt it is to conceal it and create a silhouette of balance and proportion. Happy Shopping!!!

First Lady of Style

I know she's not the "First Lady" -----yet, but Mrs. Obama has "First Class Style". Her poise, intelligence, modelesque beauty, and fashion sense has definitely raised the bar for any future "First Lady". It's so refreshing to see some style in politics. Not since Jackie-O has any female political figure come close to setting any type of note-worthy fashion standard. She updates classic sophistication with modern-day elegance. Her take on the classic black sheath is to wear it in a trendy color with classic pearls. She is the perfect example of how to intermingle classic and trendy pieces.

I'm sure her style will be as legendary as Mrs. Kennedy-Onasis'. Michelle Obama defines "First Lady" style and sets an example for us all to follow. So get in line, follow, and take note from this modern day fashion icon.

80's contempo is definitely back!!!! Celebs such as Kanye-West, Spike Lee, Mr. Bentley, and Bow-Wow have been rockin' the 80's classic Casio G-Shock watch. The watches have been updated with bigger-faces, brighter colors, celeb endorsing, and designer partnerships. Some even have "bling"! This will be a must-have for the back-to-school-trend-setter. (I copped one for my son and he loves it!!!)

Must Have Accessory

Patricia Fields has done it again!!! The award-winning stylist, who rarely gets credited for turning Sarah Jessica Parker into a fashion icon, has set another trend. This vintage belt can be seen throughout the Sex and the City movie.

Well, Ms. Fields has replicated the it accessory for the masses. Available on her own website for $120.00

Kitson LA also has their own version. They sold out of the actual "look-alike" and now have the metal buckled version for $195.00

Fashion Role Model

I must say that I'm so glad to see, slowly, but surely, the days of the saggy jeans and Tims fading away. It's been a long time coming, but Neyo's album title says it best: this is "The Year of The Gentleman". Now don't get me wrong, clothing does not make a man a gentleman, but damn, it sure does help with his swagger. Hip-hop has such a big influence on today's fashion for the youth, so let's thank Diddy and Jay for making the suit sexy. I'm glad to see more rappers donning Purple Label suits, Japanese denim, sweater vests, and Gucci sneakers. Now, if we can get the ladies to cover up a bit more, we may be able to bring chivalry back.

With this said, I have to discuss my favorite male fashion role model. I love Fonzworth Bentley. (He's making light-skinned guys hottt again!!!LOL)Mr. Bentley, born Derek Watkins, really sets the example of how a modern gentleman should look. Thanks to him, Diddy advanced his swagger. Mr. Bentley has charisma, style, he's handsome, well-groomed, and can clearly articulate his point without saying, "You know what I mean?" He's best known as Diddy's personal assistant, but Fonzworth is quickly developing his own identity amongst the masses. Even though, I'm not really fond of his seemingly scripted G's to Gents reality show(I only watch to check out "The Bentley"), I can appreciate the idea of trying to broaden a man's perspective. Fonzworth has released a book, "Advance your Swagger", wherein he discusses how manners, style, and confidence can advance you in this game of life. He has been featured in several movies, commercials, and psa's. And now he is set to release his debut album C.O.L.O.U.R.S. (CoolOutrageousLoversOfUniquelyRawStyle). The single, which is available on iTunes, features Kanye and Andre 3000 called Everybody.

Mr. Bentley is definitely a man who is very confident in his own skin. He knows exactly who he is and is not afraid to be a gentleman in this age of wanna-be-gangstas and thugs. And with that said, always be true to yourself. We all have the potential to be fabulous!!! Happy Shopping!!!
