Goodbye to Yesteryear...2008!!

It's New Years Eve!!! This time of year is always kind of bittersweet. The year has come and gone. Good times and bad times. We have a historic new President! We all are getting older (some, not so wiser). The economy is shot to hell. Jobs were lost. Many retailers went out of business. Banks went bankrupt(damn)! But through it all, we looked good, right! (LOL). Well, here it is. My list of trends that came and went in 2008... Some need to never come back. Don't shed a tear for the memories (you'll ruin your make-up)! LOL.

5) Skinny Jeans-even the boys rocked them! But it's time to replace them with the "boyfriend' jean.

4) Rocker liquid leggings-I rocked mine to death! However, for '09, you'll be doin' the "Hammer-time" in your "harem" pants.(Notice I said you; not me.)

3) Scarves-enough already!!! Let's tie it in a knot and strangle this trend...It's time to get sophisticated in '09 with "bold statement jewelry".

2) Christian Dior Gladiator Sandal... Everystore had a knockoff of this shoe! This was the hottest trend of 2008. I didn't even want the "real" Dior because there were so many damn copycats. For '09, we will see updated versions of the pee-toe platfom.

1)UGGS... AAAAAGGGGHH!!!!!. For crying out loud people>>>they're called Uggs!!!>>.Short for UGLY. As much as I hate that word, it is appropriately used in this context. These are not for style, but for function(like their ugly cousin Crocs); to keep the feet warm for people in Australia...LOL; not for so-called-fashionistas!!! Please, Obama calls for change! This year we must act on that! Stand for change and kick the Uggs back in 2008. (But I just know I'll see these things in 2009.....damn!) For '09, we will see a re-birth of the "classic tailored tall boot".

Trend Alert!!!-Harem Pants

AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

"Can't touch this">>> 'cause it will be in and out too fast! (I know that was corny, but whatever). This is one trend I choose not follow. But this was all over the runways for the spring '09 shows. McHammer and Aladdin will be RTW (ready-to-wear) this summer, coming to a store near you.

If you must indulge in the "Hammer Pants"(as we called them back in the day), I recommend not spending your mortgage on a pair to keep up with the Jones' (or the it celeb of the moment). Remember it's a trend. It won't be around for long and most importantly it's not for everyone. If you have rounded hips, please do not add draped emphasis to your natural curves. However, on the other hand, if you have too little hips and no booty(me), then let's not highlight our less-than-adequate area with extra loose fabric. This trend looks best on a slender "X" and "H" shape. (Click here for body shapes).

Keep the look simple. Pair the pants with a simple clean tee, perhaps a cropped jacket and some gladiator sandals. Remember, the pants are going to be the attention getter of your ensemble. Adding too many details to such saggy vogue will have you looking a bit like a wastrel Aladdin.

Happy Shopping!!!

As we get closer to ringing in the New Year, I came up with my:

1) Bold, statement jewelry

2)Nude Lips w/Smokey Eyes.

3)Christian Louboutin "Very Prive" In Fawn Brown

4)Soft-billowy fabrics.

5) Liquid metallics!

6)The shape of '09 will continue to be bell. So look for tulip skirts, peplum tops, and belt the waistline whenever posssible.

7)This RM by Roland Mouret skirt and bodytop!

8)Suyra XL Louis Vuitton bag!!!

9) Chanel Polish in Feu de Russie

10) Black is back as the new black!!!

Only you'll know that it took all morning, filled with many changes, and clothes thrown all over your room to achieve this "sexy-grunge- I- look-good-but-didn't-try" ensemble. Fall Trend...Feathers, Fringe, and Faux

Herve Leger at ShopStyle

Who says you can't wear more than one trend at a time? The key is simplicity... Here is a look perfect for the red carpet with this Herve Leger banded dress with fringed details, Claudi Citi feather sandals (that are not overpowering), a dazzling coctkail ring, and drop faux pearl earrings. It's okay to mix investment pieces with chic, inexpensive accessories... Happy Shopping!!!

Coco Chanel on Lifetime...

This was icing on the cake for such a fashionlicious week!!! Shirley MacClain stars as Coco Chanel on Lifetime television. The premiere took place on Saturday; the perfect excuse to wind-down from the fashion shows, relax on the sofa, and take in some fashion drama.

Watch the clip here, courtesy of My Lifetime Television

The movie chronicles the legendary fashion icon from her humble childhood beginnings, to her love affairs, and becoming the most influential fashion role model of all time. Chanel is responsible for changing the way a woman wears a hat, a suit, and accessories. She birthed the little black dress and that iconic parfume of the same name. In addition to studying her in fashion school and taking a cinema course that included the original movie version (Chanel Solitaire)on her life, I have watched this movie three times since it originally aired on Saturday. It's very entertaining and leaves me a little more inspired to hustle harder with my own vision.

Just A Thought...

Uuummm. In this month's issue of Vibe Magazine, the 20 Questions section asks, " How come Nelly, co-founder of Apple-Bottoms, is the new spokes-model for Sean John?" hahhhahahhahha
I could not stop laughing... I did not think of it like that, but no matter how hott Nelly is, why would he do that? Is that a smart business move? Shouldn't he try to catch his line up to Puffy's award-winning clothing empire, instead of helping add fuel to the mogul's hotttness? Isn't Puffy such a pimp?LOL....

Anyway, just a thought...

M-B FASHION WEEK...Day Eight

Goes out with a bang!!!

This is it!!! The final day of New York's Mercedes Benz Fashion Week-Spring 2009!!! I covered just about every show that took place today because they all were so fierce!!! First on my agenda was Project Runway. The newcomers gave the pros a run for their money. The collections were elaborate and detailed. The garments were beautifully constructed and the wear-ability was within reason. These designers must be commended for going after their dreams. So fabulous!!!

As expected, Ralph Lauren's collection delivered quintessential classics with modern silhouettes. Very sophisticated, elegant, and always wearable pieces.

I love Tadashi! I own a few of his ever-exquisite gowns. His collection reminded me of the arctic in springtime. White with silver reflections, and royal blue water melting into the ocean. Every now and then you'd see a flower trying to bloom.
Tadashi Shoji

Carmen Marc Valvo showcased the glamour and luxurious designs he's so famous for. I'm sure we'll see a few pieces from this collection on the red carpet.

Donna Karen Collection is the luxury line from Donna Karen. This showing boasted some beautiful fluid-like jersey pieces in muted, earthy tones. Each dress, blouse, pants, skirt gracefully draped the models "frame" and created and illusion of a perfectly proportioned figure. Karen is known for dressing women the way we want to be dressed.

Badgley Mischka's gowns are always so exquisite and detailed; always a celeb favorite.

American designer, Chado Ralph Rucci, showcased his signature structured "look". His collection was wearable art. He always bring avant-garde to everyday people.

Fashion week was a plethora of color and fabrics with one main objective: to showcase each designers inspiration for what you will be wearing for Spring 2009. The main theme was print and figure illusion. We all will be comfortably-chic this spring. Just always remember that these all are ideas. Keep in mind what works best for your body-type. Add only one or two trendy items to your classic wardrobe each season. As always, happy shopping! London Fashion Week starts Monday, and LA Fashion Week is in October!!! I'll be giving you the scenes.
